The ceremonial act of laying the foundation stone of the modern sports hall of the Olympic Arena took place today in the X-BIONIC® SPHERE multifunctional sports complex. The importance of this project for Slovak sport was also underlined by the participation of the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach. The most important person in the field of sport visited Slovakia after 22 years.
The planned Olympic Arena will become a modern sports center that will meet the highest international standards (FIBA, FIVB, IHF, ITF, IFF) and will enable the organization of prestigious international events. The capacity of the arena will be 5,000 seats, and it will serve not only the Slovak representatives, but also the general public and sports organizations.
It will be part of the already existing X-BIONIC® SPHERE complex, which has had the status of the Slovak Olympic Training Center since 2016. This complex provides professional conditions for the performance of 26 Olympic sports and includes, for example, an Olympic equestrian center, an athletics stadium, swimming pools, saunas and a fitness center, a gymnastics hall and a sports hall for indoor sports with an area of 10,000 m², a hotel with congress facilities and a restaurant.
"The new multifunctional sports hall, the foundations of which we are laying together today, represents a significant step forward in the field of sports equipment in Slovakia. It is an investment in the region, in sports infrastructure and in the Olympic preparation of top athletes. Last year, we made such investments in the amount of approximately one hundred million euros. Not only sports infrastructure is important for our ministry, but also the organization of sports events, of which more than thirty were supported last year. We are ready to continue this in 2025," said the Minister of Travel at the ceremony.Dušan Keketi.
