The Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Slovak Republic will provide a financial contribution of €150,000 to the University Hospital Bratislava (UNB) for the purchase of a new spiroergometry line for the Department of Sports Medicine. This support will allow for the renewal of key instrumentation that is essential for carrying out preventive medical examinations of athletes and for ensuring quality diagnostics and care.
"We consider it an important part of every athlete's life. Only healthy athletes can perform adequately and fully prepare for their sports goals," said the Minister of Tourism and Sports. "We are glad that after years comprehensive health care for athletes will be provided at an appropriate level," he added.
Sports medicine is an independent clinical field that deals with the response and adaptation of the body to physical stress and uses movement as a means of prevention, treatment and regeneration. The UNB workplace is one of the state-guaranteed facilities in this area in Slovakia – along with the hospitals in Košice and Martin.
The purchase of a new spiroergometry line will help solve the emergency situation at the workplace, where the current device has served for more than 24 years and can no longer be serviced or used for mandatory examinations under the Sports Act. The new device will allow for the continuation of testing and evaluation of sports performance of professional and amateur athletes, including representatives of the Slovak Republic, and at the same time ensure compliance with applicable medical standards.
Thanks to this investment, the UNB Department of Sports Medicine will be able to offer full-scale preventive examinations, including spiroergometry, muscle strength measurement, ultrasound diagnostics and examinations aimed at preventing injuries and optimizing the training process.

Our sports medicine department has top experts who have been involved in medicine for a long time, which helps athletes to perform better. The renewal of the equipment gives us space to perform more procedures, preventive check-ups of athletes and supports our intention of specific care for athletes and meeting their needs."said Alexander Mayer, director of the University Hospital Bratislava.
With this step, the Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Slovak Republic confirms its commitment to systematically support the protection of athletes' health and to develop professional facilities for sports medicine in Slovakia.
